7,964 methamphetamine pills found on man at roadblock

BESUT: Police detained a mechanic and seized 7,964 pills, believed to be methamphetamine, worth more than RM143,000, at a roadblock mounted in conjunction with the Aidilfitri Crime prevention Ops at Simpang Tiga Kampung Pinang in Kampung Raja here.

Besut deputy police chief DSP Noor Zainy Mohd Noor said the suspect, 21, from Bachok, Kelantan, was behaving suspiciously when police stopped his car, a Proton Satria, for inspection at about 3.30pm.

He said police found the pills, in four packages under the driver’s seat.

Police also seized RM940 from the suspect, he told a media conference at the Kampung Raja police station here on Wednesday.

The suspect is in remand until Aug 20 to facilitate police investigations.

In another development, Noor Zainy said a 19-year-old man from Kampung Pulau Perhentian was detained to assist police investigations into a break-in at a grocery shop in a fire near the Pulau Perhentian Kecil jetty.

Following his arrest, police recovered two handphones, 64 pieces of telephone top-up cards, 25 boxes of cigarettes and RM1,127, believed to have been stolen from the grocery shop. – Bernama
