‘What about other assemblymen who served longer?’

‘What about other assemblymen who served longer?’

MIC Wanita chief Mohana Muniandy says it is clear that if Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail becomes the next Selangor MB, it will benefit her husband Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7:

There is nothing wrong with a woman Menteri Besar for Selangor, but Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail was not the right candidate, Wanita MIC said.

Echoing the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs’ sentiments, Wanita MIC chief Mohana Muniandy told The Rakyat Post that there were more viable options within PKR for the post.

“Wan Azizah has just become the Kajang assemblyman and now she has been picked for the Menteri Besar post. What about the PKR assemblymen that had been serving for much longer?

“The fact that this is a political game proves that she is not the best candidate for the post. It is clear that she at the helm will just be beneficial to her husband, Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.”

Making Wan Azizah the Menteri Besar lacked credibility, Mohana said, while the issue was “wasting the people’s time”.

She also claimed that PKR had been playing up the MB issue so much that they forgot to handle the prevailing dengue and water issues.

“These important issues are not becoming their core issues because they are so distracted by the tussle for the MB post.

“At the end, it was the people that loss out because they are being neglected.”

She said MIC and the Barisan Nasional were ready to serve the people of Selangor if they got the chance again, claiming that support was returning for the ruling coalition as it was working to help the people.

Talks that Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim would be replaced as the Selangor Menteri Besar cropped up earlier this year following the “Kajang Move”, which was meant to pave the way for Anwar to succeed Abdul Khalid after being elected as the assemblyman in the Kajang by-election.

Anwar was, however, disqualified from contesting after the Court of Appeal overturned the former Deputy Prime Minister’s acquittal for sodomising his aide in 2008.

PKR recently came to a consensus that Wan Azizah would succeed Abdul Khalid as the MB.
